Better Than Louis Vuitton

In today's society it is perfectly acceptable to be a shoe freak or to swoon over a new purse. I think that is great, however, it's just not me. Don't get me wrong. I like new shoes if they are comfortable and I think a cute purse is fun. I just don't aspire to have a collection of either of them.
While new matching shoes and a handbag might make most women's heart beat a little faster, my drug of choice is a great new book! I love the smell of books (especially if they are from the library). I like the sound of a turning page. I usually get excited about vacations based on what books I plan to read while I'm wherever we are going.
So, you can imagine I try really hard to stay away from Life Way. I just lose all sense when I go in there. It is one store I know I could spend a million dollars in (and read everything I buy within a year!).
I have been planning a book purchase for several weeks now. I have looked forward to it as if I were going to an amusement park. I know, I'm ridiculous! Anyway - Today was the day! Of course I quickly found the 2 books I had planned on buying and then I found just a few other things I couldn't live without....
I discovered Francine Rivers last summer and read everything she has ever written! She is such an awesome author. So when I heard she just wrote a new book (the first in many years) I couldn't wait for it to be printed in softback. I splurged on the hardback version!!!!
Everyone who knows me knows I am a Beth Moore Junkie. I hadn't planned to read this one (not sure why) but realized a few weeks ago that I really needed to.

I know this isn't the best picture, but it is called 'Crazy Love' it is by Francis Chan. A fellow book-a-holic recommended his book, 'Forgotten God'. So of course when I saw that it was on sale today I couldn't resist. When I was checking out the cashier asked if I had read his first book, Crazy Love. He said it was the best book he had ever read. So I had to run and get it too! Who could resist a subtitle like: Overwhelmed By a Relentless God??

Now this book was a wild card choice. I saw it, it looked interesting, and it became a total impulse buy. Becoming More Than a Good Bible Study Girl. That is what I want - so I just felt a desperate need to read the book!

Now this one is for Alaynah. I love to read, therefore I am determined my children will too. She has finished her AR books for the year (Hallelujah!) So now we are on to reading Christian fiction. This is a collection of short stories about a modern fifteen-year-old living in Amish country, growing up to be the best she can be in God's eyes.

I also talked Kenneth into the joy of reading fiction!!!! He chose Rooms because it looked suspenseful and then Luke's Story because it will help him to understand about Luke the Disciple. I hope he reads that one first so that I can borrow it. I have a feeling it will be like Francine Rivers' series about women in the Bible that changed how I will forever see the women she wrote about.

And I didn't leave Carlie out. She selected stories about David and Goliath and Jonah.
It was a wonderful day!!!!
Now that my secret is out, if you know of any good books - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE recommend them to me. I am always in the market for a great new book!!!

Springing Forward

Daylight Savings Time.
I love to Fall back and gain an hour but to spring forward is tough. I look forward to the longer days and the warm summer nights, so I endure it.

We had to explain it to Kenneth because they don't have Daylight Savings Time in Hong Kong. Then, last Monday, when we were leaving for school and it was dark, he said, "This is daylight savings - this is stupid????" I assured him it would be light soon. And then we laughed all the way to school about how crazy he thinks we are.

Needless to say, it normally takes a few days for my body to get used to the change in time. This year, for whatever reason, my body is not being so kind to me. It has almost been two weeks and I am still so very tired. I can't seem to shake this feeling of wanting to fall asleep any time I get still.

Anybody have any ideas of how to get back on track???

Very Funny

Read this today and couldn't stop laughing.....

A man and his wife were having some problems at homeand were giving each other the silent treatment.
Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake himat 5:0 0 AM for an early morning business flight.
Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper,'Please wake me at 5:00 AM.'
He left it where he knew she would find it.
The next morning, the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight
Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed.
The paper said, 'It is 5:00 AM. Wake up.'
Men are not equipped for these kinds of contests.

The Human Condition

New Poem that could use some constructive criticism.....

The Human Condition
To hear folks talk about the human condition one would think that good is impossible
One would think that a person just can’t help being rotten or bitter or angry or mean
One would think there is no hope for criminals or grandmas to be better or think better or do better
But that is just what one would think
I know that as humans we have a condition
There is always a part of us that, left unchecked, might cause us to believe the worst in others
There will always be days when we see the worst in others
There will always be times when we want to choose anger or hatred or greed
But those are just moments
The human condition we find ourselves in is a condition of our own making
We can choose to stand up for the outcast instead of commenting on the meanness of others
We can choose to comfort the broken hearted instead of gossiping about the heart breaker
We can choose love or forgiveness or grace
But that is just what I think
